The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has told the Dáil that a new republican paramilitary group has emerged in the North.

Reacting to questions about the recent shootings of two policemen in Dungannon and Derry, Mr Ahern said the latest development was a matter of concern.

He said that, as well as the Real IRA and the Continuity IRA, a new younger group had emerged over the past year, calling itself Oglaigh na hÉireann.

Mr Ahern said all three groups had "the capacity to cause trouble".
