Mulligan hoping for 'Downton’ cameo

Carey Mulligan would love a role on 'Downton Abbey'.

The Oscar-nominated actress was guided through the early stages of her acting career by show creator Julian Fellowes, who kindly took her under his wing.

She is now eager to repay the favour by appearing in his hit UTV period drama, but Julian has yet to ask her to be on the show.

She said: "Julian hasn't asked! But if he did, I'd say yes! I love Julian and 'Downton' is great."

Carey, 28, has previously credited the talented screenwriter for helping her launch her career by inviting her out to dinner after she wrote to him for career advice as a youngster.

Julian then urged his Hollywood pals to give the 'Great Gatsby' actress a chance, resulting in her being cast as Keira Knightley's younger sister in 2005's 'Pride and Prejudice'.

Carey said: "If I hadn't met Julian, I never would have got an audition for 'Pride and Prejudice', which was my first job and got me my agent.

“Meeting him was the luckiest moment for me. And it wasn't just the luck of meeting him but his generosity because he really wanted to help me, which was so kind considering all of the people who must have been asking for his help."
