IFA call on Walsh to reject CAP changes

The Irish Farmers Association says it will impress on the Minister for Agriculture to resist proposed changes in the Common Agricultural Policy.

The Irish Farmers Association says it will impress on the Minister for Agriculture to resist proposed changes in the Common Agricultural Policy.

The IFA Executive met in Dublin last night for an emergency meeting to discuss the proposed changes, which it says will be detrimental for Irish farmers.

IFA President, John Dillon, says he wants Minister Joe Walsh to reject the proposed CAP changes entirely, as they amount to a breach of faith by the EU.

"I want the Minister to be enthusiastic in his approach in rejecting the proposals out of hand.

"We have an Agenda 2000 agreement in place from March 1999, which was for a period of seven years. The terms of that agreement have now been breached."
