Shatter: Labour always ready to 'cuddle' FF

A Fine Gael deputy has accused Labour of always being available when Fianna Fáil is under pressure and in need of "a political cuddle".

It follows Labour's decision yesterday to enter a pairing arrangement on Dáil votes to enable Tánaiste Mary Coughlan go on a trade mission to the US.

Labour has insisted the arranagement is a once-off and said it has no intention of entering Government with Fianna Fáil.

However Fine Gael's Alan Shatter said nobody should take Labour's protestations seriously.

"Essentially Fianna Fáil and the Labour Party are colluding in the staging of a political fantasy," Deputy Shatter said.

"(Labour) enjoys the publicity it regularly attains from kicking Fianna Fáil around - the truth is, it's always available to Fianna Fáil when that party is genuinely under pressure and in need of a political cuddle."
