Members of the Green Party are holding a special meeting in Dublin today as reports circulate of a split within the party over Budget cutbacks.

Many Green members are believed to be vehemently opposed to the cuts in health and education.

Some are believed to have called for the party to withdraw from government unless the measures are reversed.

Separately, the Green Party's TDs and Senators are expected to hold a meeting in Leinster House within the next two days to discuss the proposed education cuts.

Green Dublin Mid West TD Paul Gogarty has already put forward alternative proposals that he says would avoid the need for a cutbacks in teacher numbers and increases in school class sizes.
