High street retailer Boots said it had traded successfully in the run up to Christmas after today reporting a like-for-like sales lift of 2.6%.
Strong sales of cosmetics and fragrances drove the improvement, which Boots said kept it on course to post profits in line with hopes.
The retailer, which staged three-for-two offers as part of its Christmas strategy, said it managed to grow sales without impacting on margins.
Overall, sales for Boots the Chemists were up by 4.2% to £1.45bn (€2.07bn) in the three months to December 31, with a 4.1% increase in volumes and a better mix of sales offsetting deflation of 2.4%.
