Iris Royal is in line for a return to the track this weekend after 20 months on the sidelines.
But whether the 2003 Tripleprint Gold Cup winner has his comeback outing over hurdles or fences has yet to be confirmed.
The nine-year-old, trained by Nicky Henderson, holds entries in the totesport Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon on Saturday and the William Hill/Stanleybet Children In Need Handicap Hurdle at Aintree on Sunday.
He was originally sidelined with a leg problem after finishing second in the Cathcart Chase at Cheltenham in March 2004 and plans to bring him back towards the end of last season were scrapped because of coughing.
“The Peterborough Chase is a definite possibility but he’s coming back after being off a long time,” said Barry Simpson, racing manager to owner Sir Robert Ogden.
“As long as the ground is satisfactory he may well run.
“He had the summer off and he’s come back in good form at home but it’s a big difference to running in a race.
“It’s been frustrating to have missed a horse of his calibre for so long.
“It looks like he will be having a run but it depends where. We have to start at some point and he will improve for it.”
