550 jobs to go in Belfast car parts plant

About 550 workers at the European Car Components plant in the Dundonald area of east Belfast are to be laid off.

About 440 workers at the European Car Components plant in the Dundonald area of east Belfast are to be laid off.

The workers learned they were lose their jobs when they arrived at the factory this morning. The company also laid off 300 workers last year, blaming a downturn in the car industry.

This brings to the number of job losses announced today to 750 following news of the closure of a textiles plant in Co Tyrone.
