A series of Fine Gael backbenchers have lashed out at suggestions that the party could go into government with Fianna Fáil..
Prominent TD Jerry Buttimer said Micheál Martin and his party have done "untold damage" to the country in previous coalitions.
His comments come after Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney said he would be open to a Fine Gael - Fianna Fáil government, if a programme for government could be agreed.
But Cork South Central TD Jerry Buttimer says that would have "nothing to offer" the public.
"I personally wouldn't be in favour of letting Fianna Fáil back into government in any shape or form.
"I think they've done untold damage to our country, [and] Michael Martin has been part of that government in the past - I believe he's a busted flush and has nothing to offer the Irish people."
Deputy Buttimer said Fine Gael and Labour should return to government to continue the current coalition arrangement.
Kildare TD Martin Heydon also said he wouldn't support a partnership with Fianna Fáil, saying the party has not learned from the lessons of the past, and said they cannot be trusted with the economy.
