MP calls for fight duo to be sacked

British MP John McWilliam has called for Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer to be kicked out of the game following their brawl during Saturday’s Premiership clash with Aston Villa.

British MP John McWilliam has called for Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer to be kicked out of the game following their brawl during Saturday’s Premiership clash with Aston Villa.

Bowyer and Dyer were red-carded after fighting in front of a 52,000 crowd nine minutes before the end of Newcastle’s 3-0 defeat at St James’ Park.

Newcastle responded today by fining Bowyer six weeks’ wages but they have appealed against Dyer’s red card, on the grounds that Bowyer was the aggressor, and insist both players have a future at the club.

McWilliam believes 28-year-old Bowyer and 26-year-old Dyer should have been sacked by the club.

“They set a terrible example and are a disgrace to the game,” he told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.

“They should both stop playing professional football. They are setting an appalling example to youngsters watching them. The club should sack them and they should be banned from the game.”

Northumbria Police match day commander Supt Paul Weir, Newcastle United football intelligence officers and club officials have already had talks about the incident.

Newcastle police commander Chief Supt Chris Machell said: “We will have to talk about the situation with the CPS and the club.

“There have been no formal complaints about the incident, but there are a number of issues to be addressed.”
