Latest: Man shot at Dublin garage named locally as James 'Mago' Gately

Update 9.59am: The man shot in yesterday's suspected gangland attack in Dublin has been named locally as James 'Mago' Gately.

The 30-year-old was hit in the neck and upper body by a gunman who shot him through the window of his parked car.

He was on the forecourt of a garage on the Clonsaugh Road near the airport at the time and Gardaí have issued as appeal for witnesses.

Earlier: A man shot in a gang-related incident in Dublin yesterday remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The man in his 30s was shot in the neck and upper body at a Topaz garage beside a hotel on the Clonshaugh Road near Dublin Airport.

He was fired at by a gunman in a black 08 Lexus, which was later found burnt out in Ardee, County Louth.

Gardaí have described the shooting as "outrageous" and say there were up to 70 innocent people in the area who could have been hurt.

Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Paul McAuliffe said it is alarming that more and more shootings are taking place in crowded public areas:

"That's the real problem with this crime, and also the ones in recent times, is that they're taking place increasingly in a more and more brazen manner.

"They're taking place in very public places during the middle of the day and the chances of somebody being - an innocent person - being killed or injured in one of these shootings is increasing," he said.
