The Office to bow out with Xmas episodes
Ricky Gervais has confirmed The Office will return for two final episodes this Christmas.
Viewers will see David Brent dressed up as Santa Claus as the hit show bows out for good.
“We’re halfway through writing and we can’t tell you the plot because that would spoil it, but you’ll see all the old favourites – and a couple more,” Gervais told this week’s Heat magazine.
His writing partner, Stephen Merchant, added: “It’ll be the same jokes, but with tinsel and David Brent in a Santa outfit.”
Fans of the sitcom had hoped Gervais would bring back The Office for a third series.
But he insisted he would never revive the show after these last two episodes.
Gervais said: “If every project from this Christmas to when I’m fat and 50, as opposed to fat and 40, is the most abysmal thing ever, I still won’t do that. This is the end of the story.”
The 40-minute episodes, which begin filming in August, will be screened on their “spiritual home” of BBC2 rather than transferring to BBC1, he added.
The comedy pair plan to continue working together and are considering ideas for another sitcom and a feature film.
