Gardaí in Dublin have launched a murder investigation following a gangland-style shooting in the Kilmainham area of the city early this morning.

Gardaí in Dublin have launched a murder investigation following a gangland-style shooting in the Kilmainham area of the city early this morning.

The victim, a man in his late 20s or early 30s, was shot on Military Road just after midnight and died a short time later at St James's Hospital.

Gardaí have preserved the scene of the shooting pending technical examination later today, while a number of roads in the vicinity have been temporarily closed.
