Workers for Wincanton, who deliver fuel for TOPAZ in Cork, Galway and Dublin are to go on official strike concerning changes Wincanton wish to make to work practises, according to SIPTU.

Those changes relate to the fact that TOPAZ had communicated to Wincanton that it has found the performance of the contract unsatisfactory in terms of costs and efficiency.

Energy suppliers TOPAZ had brought High Court proceedings against SIPTU and employees of Wincanton yesterday, claiming they had mounted pickets at a number of their facilities.

TOPAZ had secured an interim injunction yesterday preventing SIPTU and a number of named individuals who are employees of the distribution firm Wincanton from picketing or attempting to picket their premises in Cork, Dublin and Galway.

TOPAZ had said that the pickets, which had been placed outside a number of the companies' premises yesterday, were illegal.
