Bitten Sheridan in hospital

England World Cup prop Andrew Sheridan has been admitted to hospital after suffering an insect bite.

England World Cup prop Andrew Sheridan has been admitted to hospital after suffering an insect bite.

The Sale Sharks prop is out of contention for England’s final World Cup warm-up game against France in Marseille next Saturday.

He was taken to hospital two days ago following a bite to the lower part of his right leg.

Sheridan, 28, has been given intravenous antibiotics and hopes to be discharged from hospital later this week.

The 13 times-capped loosehead started England’s Twickenham appointments with Wales and France earlier this month.

Scrum-half Peter Richards, meanwhile, is still struggling with a back problem that means he has so far taken no part in England’s August Test schedule.

Uncapped Sale number nine Richard Wigglesworth, who joined the England training squad last week as cover, is currently with the 30-man World Cup group at their Bath training base.
