This afternoon’s meeting at Sandown goes ahead after the track passed a morning inspection.

Clerk of the course Andrew Cooper had been concerned by the amount of rain forecast overnight but he reports the track to be raceable.

He said: “We have had rain here overnight but it was at the lower end of the forecast.

“We basically had two spells of rain really, four millimetres fell late yesterday afternoon and about five millimetres fell this morning between 4am and 6am. There could be a little more rain around in the next hour or so but it’s forecast to clear by 9am.

“Obviously the ground is testing and we’re calling it heavy on the hurdles track and soft, heavy in places on the chase course.”
