Police in New Mexico have detained three youngsters dressed as clowns who were found with a firearm.
Albuquerque police spokesman Simon Drobik said officers were dispatched to a call about a "clown sighting" near a children's clothing shop in the city.
Authorities located three juveniles donning clown masks.
Mr Drobik said they were also in possession of what appeared to be a handgun.
The investigation is ongoing and it is not clear what charges the trio may face.
The incident comes amid a host of incidents involving scary clown sightings across the US.
Also in New Mexico, police in Alamogordo have identified three boys who allegedly haunted a middle school dressed with a clown mask, and Roswell police have urged residents not to dress up as clowns after reports surfaced of clowns with bats walking around the city.
