‘New law needed to impose penalty points for mobile phone use’

The Tánaiste, Mary Harney, has confirmed that new legislation will be required to impose penalty points on motorists who use their mobile phones while driving.

The Tánaiste, Mary Harney, has confirmed that new legislation will be required to impose penalty points on motorists who use their mobile phones while driving.

Ms Harney confirmed the need for new legislation after being questioned about the matter in the Dáil by Labour Party TD Róisín Shorthall.

The Tánaiste said the required legislation would be published before the summer.
