Turkish police shot a suspected bomber this morning as he ran towards the Justice Ministry in Ankara, CNN-Turk television reported.

The television report said the bomber was killed, but footage later broadcast showed him lying on the ground with his head moving.

Police cordoned off the area in front of the Justice Ministry and the suspect could be seen lying on the ground as a member of the bomb squad, wearing protective clothing, removed his shirt and then a tan-coloured cylinder with wires coming out of it.

Members of militant Kurdish, leftist and Islamic groups are active in Turkey and have carried out bombings in the past.
