A Co Mayo man is feared dead today after a fire at his house in Charlestown overnight.

A Co Mayo man is feared dead today after a fire at his house in Charlestown overnight.

The two-storey farmhouse where the man lived alone was destroyed in the fire.

The fire brigade arrived at the scene at around 7am, but by that time, the roof and floor of the building had collapsed.

A forensics team is expected to examine the debris once it cools down this afternoon and gardai said they are keeping an open mind on whether the occupant was at home at the time of the blaze.
