Police today said DNA tests prove that a young Austrian woman who turned up earlier this week is Natascha Kampusch, who vanished as a 10-year old eight years ago.

The announcement was made at a news conference called to give new details of the investigation into Kampusch’s disappearance and her discovery on Wednesday in the small town outside Vienna where she says she was held by her abductor.

While relatives had already identified Kampusch, police had been waiting for the results of DNA tests to remove any doubt.
