Norbit loses the run of itself

EDDIE MURPHY stretches himself in more ways than one in Norbit (Paramount, €24.99) playing a number of roles.

EDDIE MURPHY stretches himself in more ways than one in Norbit (Paramount, €24.99) playing a number of roles.

But not even his comedic talents can rescue this inept film with a plot (Murphy wrote and produced) that simply loses the run of itself.

Murphy plays a luckless orphan whose buddy Kate (Thandie Newton) is adopted, leaving him to be rescued by the enormous Rasputia (Murphy again), who bullies him into marrying her.

But when Kate returns to buy the orphanage, Norbit’s true love forces him into action.

Deleted scenes and some featurettes round out this title, but it’s all rather a mess.
