New head of Prison Service appointed

Michael Donnellan has been appointed the new Director General of the Irish Prison Service.

Michael Donnellan has been appointed the new Director General of the Irish Prison Service.

Justice Minister Alan Shatter said Mr Donnellan has been chosen to replace Brian Purcell, who was appointed Secretary General of the Department of Justice in August.

Mr Donnellan is currently director of the Probation Service.
