The Government announced today the allocation of thousands of euro in annual funding for two Dublin community programmes.

Noel Ahern, Junior Minister at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, set aside €250,000 annually for the Ballymun Music/Wind Band and Digital Community Projects.

The Department will make €150,000 available immediately for 2007.

Both projects aim to alleviate educational disadvantage in Dublin, within a school and community setting.

The Digital Community Project is an initiative of DIT that aims to tackle educational disadvantage through the use of computer-based training programmes in deprived areas of Dublin’s inner city.

The Ballymun Windband project is an initiative to engage and educate children through music.

It is run by DIT in partnership with a number of schools based in Ballymun and has strong community links.
