The woman accused of murdering British student Meredith Kercher is eager to give evidence in her defence, her father said today.

Amanda Knox is on trial in Perugia, central Italy, with her former Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito for the killing of Miss Kercher in 2007.

“She’s hanging in there,” Curt Knox said in an interview with US tv.

“She’s seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. She’s getting anxious to testify and get her word in court that she’s 100% innocent.”

Knox’s family have attended every hearing since the trial started in January and have defended her in the media.

Knox, a 21-year-old from Seattle, was in an exchange programme in Perugia and sharing an apartment with Miss Kercher, 21, from Coulsdon, Surrey.

Miss Kercher was found dead in her bedroom in the house.

Her throat had been cut and her semi-naked body was partially covered by a duvet.

Knox and Sollecito are accused of murdering her after she refused to participate in an extreme sex game

It is not clear when Knox will be called to give evidence front of the eight-member jury. The trial may go on through the end of the year.

Yesterday Knox buried her face in her hands when the blood-covered face of Miss Kercher’s corpse was shown in video footage at the trial.
