The Competition Authority has claimed to have uncovered evidence of price fixing by Statoil service stations in the north-west.
The authority claimed today that the company had fixed petrol prices in Letterkenny, Co Donegal between May 2001 and January 2002.
The Competition Authority said it had been investigating the alleged price fixing over the past two years. It said it had found that Statoil’s price support agreement with its retailers was anti-competitive.
When the authority initiated legal action against the company, Statoil agreed to end the price support deals throughout Ireland.
The Competition Authority said today that the deals were clearly put in place to avoid competition between difference service stations.
