It should be known later today whether a major agricultural disaster has been avoided in the Republic.

The Department of Agriculture is meeting with a number of farming organisations today to discuss the situation as well as review the precautionary measures and restrictions currently in place.

The ICMSA's Pat O'Rourke remains confident that we are out of the woods now.

"Based on all the measures that were put in place, we should avoid it. Obviously there have been a number of farms put in quarantine as a precaution, but we have done everything recommended by the veterinary people. I think we have it contained in south Armagh and it has not spread to this side of the border," said O'Rourke.
