Ground conditions look like being on the easy side of good for the start of the three-day totesport Ayr Gold Cup Festival tomorrow.
And with the prospect of just the odd shower for the rest of the week only minor alterations to the going are forecast.
“I’ve changed the ground to good to soft, good in places after we had 2.3 millimetres of rain last night,” said clerk of the course Katherine Self.
“It’s probably a toss up as to whether it’s good, good to soft or the other way round.
“We’ve got a dry start to the day and we are not forecast anything significant, just the odd shower amounting to 1mm if we are unlucky.
“Thursday is forecast to be our most blustery day with a couple of millimetres in showers while Friday is forecast to be much drier and brighter.
“I would hope for somewhere between the slightly easy side of good or good ground for Saturday. If we don’t get much rain between now and then it will dry up to good anyway.
“On Saturday there is potentially some drizzle coming in from late morning onwards so it may be a fairly damp day but in terms of the ground it will maintain what we’ve got all week.
“That would make life easier then you’re not worried about watering overnight when you’ve got a multiple-day fixture.”
