Recent heavy rain had put the fixture in jeopardy, but clerk of the course Barry Johnson said this morning “We are definitely racing.

“It stopped raining at 11pm last night and there was some drizzle overnight, but the main problem was that we have had 45 millimetres in the last 36 hours.

“We are lucky though, that the course if quite forgiving, which is why we can race, but the ground will be very testing and I have left the going as heavy.”
