The Weather Man

When you’re down, you’re down, as Cage’s weatherman character discovers in what is a strangely disconcerting film of downbeat humour and the search for the meaning of life.
Nothing seems to be going right for our anti-hero: making up with the estranged wife isn’t going right, the daughter is being bullied, the son’s a junkie, the novel isn’t well received … isn’t there anything worth clinging to?
We follow Cage through one setback after another, through the streets of Chicago, to a shock climax.
Cage is, as always, brilliant and here he is matched by Caine … but it’s certainly no laugh-in.
