Williams driver Antonio Pizzonia set the fastest time of the day in testing at Silverstone today.
The Brazilian set a best lap of one minute 18.275 seconds from his 100 laps at the Northamptonshire track, beating fellow Williams test driver Marc Gene to top spot by over a quarter of a second.
Renault’s Jarno Trulli was third quickest while McLaren’s bid to extract more speed from their under-performing car was not encouraging.
Test driver Alex Wurz was their highest-placed driver in fourth, over a second slower than Pizzonia, with Scotsman David Coulthard fifth quickest.
Elsewhere, Jordan began a three-day test at Vairano in Italy with tester Timo Glock at the wheel.
