Dibb film dodges bullets to deliver fine movie

Bullet Boy

Director: Saul Dibb

Cast: Ashley Walters, Luke Fraser, Leon Black, Claire Perkins

Cert: 16

A fine London-set drama from writer-director Dibb, tracing the constant battle of Walters, newly released from detention, to shake off the mean and troubled streets and to decide where his loyalties lie when his friend is caught up in a gangland feud.

It's not, clearly, easy to escape from the past but the central character, with a hero-worshipping younger brother to steer along the right paths, makes a valiant attempt.

There's a terrific soundtrack and this atmospheric drama is a surprisingly excellent hit.

Star Rating: 4/5
