Firefighters responded to reports of a fire at Mount Sinai Medical Centre in New York today.

Firefighters responded to reports of a fire at Mount Sinai Medical Centre in New York today.

A security supervisor said parts of the US hospital were being evacuated. There was no immediate word of any injuries or the extent of any damage.

The fire was reported shortly before 8am (1pm Irish time) in the hospital on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

It wasn’t clear where in the hospital the fire was reported or how it began.

A security supervisor who answered the phone at the hospital said “some areas” of the hospital were being evacuated.
