Dubliner Michael Judge played superbly to defeat former Asian Games gold medallist Shokat Ali 7-1 in the first round of the UK Championship.

Dubliner Michael Judge played superbly to defeat former Asian Games gold medallist Shokat Ali 7-1 in the first round of the UK Championship.

Judge moved from 3-1 to 6-1 with breaks of 78, 129 and 120 before coming from 57-1 down in the eighth to win on the black.

Elsewhere, John Parrott completed a hard-fought first-round win over Bradley Jones at York's Barbican Centre.

The world number 22 from Liverpool defeated Jones 7-5 and next plays Scotsman Alan McManus for a place in the last 16 of the event.
