A US news show has helped clear pop star Nick Carter's name after he was wrongly accused of drinking and driving last week.

Website ocidiots.blogspot.com reported Carter had been pulled over by police after a party in Huntingdon Beach, California, for the second time in three months, and suggested the Backstreet Boys star is gay.

But when TV show Celebrity Justice tracked down the man behind the blog, who calls himself Chief, he insisted the posting was a joke and has since added a disclaimer to the story, in which he states: "It is supposed to be funny, you know, poking fun.

"As far as I know, Nick Carter was not at Sharkeez (club) on 5/5... and is not gay. How could he be gay if he dated Paris Hilton?"

He adds: "I apologise. Please don't me mad at me, Nick, I was just playin'.

“Thanks. Love, Chief."

Carter was pulled over by cops in February and charged with driving under the influence. The pop singer will be in court next month to face the charges.
