Nurses consider new industrial policy

Members of the Irish Nurses Organisation will discuss a new industrial action policy when their annual conference commences in Killarney today.

Members of the Irish Nurses Organisation will discuss a new industrial action policy when their annual conference commences in Killarney today.

The new proposals will recommend the complete withdrawal of nurses and midwives in future disputes.

The move comes 18 months after the last nationwide nurses strike.

The INO argues that the fact that so many non-Irish nurses are working in hospitals across the country is indicative of the low morale in the profession.

The General Secretary of the organisation, Liam Doran, is warning that if benchmarking fails to deliver the nurse’s requirements further strike action will not be ruled out.
