Theatre nurses begin work stoppage in Dublin

Theatre nurses at the James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Dublin have begun the first of two six-hour work stoppages as part of a dispute over payment for on-call arrangements.

Theatre nurses at the James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Dublin have begun the first of two six-hour work stoppages as part of a dispute over payment for on-call arrangements.

The hospital's 15 theatre nurses, all members of the Irish Nurses Organisation, ceased work at 8am today and will not resume until 2pm. A similar stoppage will take place on Thursday.

The nurses have been seeking an increase in on-call payments for almost a year.

Hospital officials have drawn up contingency plans to deal with the stoppages, but treatment of elective theatre cases and day cases will be suspended during the strike action.
