The Minister for Health has confirmed that Barrington's private hospital in Limerick has agreed to suspend its breast cancer delivery services.

It follows questions concerning the quality of care given to at least ten women who attended the hospital from September 2003 to August of this year.

Mary Harney is to mount an independent clinical examination of the care of patients who presented at the clinic during that period.

The Minister confirmed that her department is in discussions with the Attorney General and Barrington's hospital to begin the inquiry as soon as possible.
