Udarás na Gaeltachta has welcomed the Government’s decision to seek official status for the Irish language at EU level.
Irish language groups have been urging the Government to seek such status for several months.
Liam Ó Cuinneagáin, the chairman of Udarás na Gaeltachta, said the move, if accepted, would boost the chances of the language’s survival by creating jobs and educational opportunities for Irish speakers.
