Robbie and Becks are in the money

Soccer ace David Beckham and pop heart-throb Robbie Williams have entered the ranks of Britain’s wealthiest 1,000 people, an annual survey showed today.

Soccer ace David Beckham and pop heart-throb Robbie Williams have entered the ranks of Britain’s wealthiest 1,000 people, an annual survey showed today.

Beckham has become Britain’s richest sports star under the age of 30 when his fortune is added to his wife Victoria’s, giving a total of £35m (€57m).

Williams is also estimated to be worth £35m (€57m), according to expert Phil Beresford, who compiled the figures to be published in The Sunday Times this weekend.

Their fortunes make them equal 962 in the top 1,000 richest.

Beckham’s lucrative deals with Pepsi and adidas have seen his cash pile swelling, to pummel boxer Naseem Hamed and oust him as wealthiest sportsman under 30.

Last year, when David and Victoria’s fortunes were counted separately, he was down in third place with £12 (€19.5m). But together they have ousted Hamed, knocking his £30m (€49m) into runner-up spot.

In joint third place in the sports world are Beckham’s Manchester United team-mates Roy Keane and Ryan Giggs, on £13m (€20m) .

The richest figure in the UK music world is again Sir Paul McCartney, who remains static on £713m (€1163m), but still well ahead of second placed Lord Lloyd-Webber on £420 (€685).

Sir Paul has not had a major boost to his income in the last 12 months compared with the previous year when he inherited millions from his late wife Linda and proceeds from sales of his Beatles greatest hits album, 1.

But that should be remedied by 2003 following a series of lucrative live dates throughout this year.

Music svengali Pete Waterman, who was a judge on ITV1’s Pop Idol and helped Kylie Minogue and Steps to record careers, makes the Rich List for the first time.

His fortune of around £45m (€73.5) is enough to take him to 794th place in the overall list and 39th in the music millionaires chart.

Williams landed in the list after success with his latest album Swing When You’re Winning, which has shifted five million copies worldwide.

His fortune is set to rocket as he negotiates a new deal with record label EMI, which is reported to be worth as much as £40m (€65m).

Another pop act new to the list is Sade, whose Lover’s Rock album was a huge hit in the US and helped her to a fortune of £35m (€57m).
