The Army bomb disposal unit has carried out a controlled explosion on two suspicious devices, thought to be pipe bombs, discovered in Limerick.

The Army bomb disposal unit has carried out a controlled explosion on two suspicious devices, thought to be pipe bombs, discovered in Limerick.

A number of houses in Rathuard were evacuated at 12.30pm following the discovery.

The devices were discovered during searches being carried out on the outskirts of Limerick city as part of ongoing investigations into criminal activity.
