The biggest logistical operation to be launched in Europe during peacetime is continuing as the countdown to the euro enters its final three days.

Financial institutions, governments and police forces across the 12 countries involved are now working around the clock.

The aim of the operation is to get 50 billion new coins and 14.5 billion euro notes into circulation as quickly as possible when the currency becomes legal tender at midnight on Monday.

Staff at Irish financial institutions are this weekend converting every account in the state into the new currency.

On Tuesday, an army of technicians will be involved in a major push to get the euro to 200, 000 ATM machines across the euro-zone.
