46 jobs lost as Supervalu store closes in Clonmel

One of SuperValu's stores in Clonmel will close its doors today - with the loss of 46 jobs.

The closure was announced in December with the company citing difficult trading conditions over a sustained period.

It has been reported that expensive commercial rates are to blame for the close.

However, SuperValu's other shop in Clonmel, Martin's SuperValu in Poppyfield Retail Park will remain open.

SuperValu are set to close another shop in Carlow in January also, but that is now part of a court case with the shopping centre where they are the anchor shop.
