The Labour Party has described Iarnrod Eireann’s decision to stop carrying the bulk of its freight business as "lunacy".

The Labour Party has described Iarnrod Eireann’s decision to stop carrying the bulk of its freight business as "lunacy".

The rail company is considering reducing the service because of projected losses of nearly £7m this year.

Labour’s Emmet Stagg said such a move would be a social and environmental disaster and would create further traffic on Ireland’s roads.
