Explosions have been heard in the Libyan town of Sirte.

Anti-Gaddafi troops have entered one of the former dictator's last remaining strongholds.

The two sides have been locked in a stand-off since National Transitional Council troops tried to advance on the town a week ago, but were repelled by fierce resistance.
