The UCD Centre for Sports Studies in conjunction with the Gaelic Players Association, today presented the results of a detailed study analysing the welfare and opinions of senior inter county GAA players.

The findings from the report, commissioned by the GPA, are certain to raise enormous debate, with the vast majority of players favouring a move towards semi professional status.

The survey also revealed that almost half of the respondents have actually suffered financially due to injury sustained through their participation in Gaelic Games at the highest level.

The results indicate a clear shift in the mindset of players, and may well have profound implications for the future of Gaelic Games.
