Tony McCoy is taking a rare day off after feeling “very sore” following a fall from Albertas Run at Ascot on Sunday.

His tumble at the third last when taking on Master Minded in the Amlin 1965 Chase was the multiple champion jockey’s third successive exit.

He had suffered spills in the preceding two races from Arturo Uno in a three-mile novice handicap chase and Naughty Naughty in a two-and-three-quarter-mile handicap hurdle.

It was the fall from Albertas Run that appeared to do the damage, the Jonjo O’Neill-trained gelding appearing to kicking McCoy as the rider lay on the ground.

McCoy limped to the ambulance and was taken off his remaining rides by the course doctor before receiving treatment to his shin.

He had just the one ride today, the O’Neill-trained Cockney Prince in the Blizzard Handicap Hurdle at Towcester, and has a couple of mounts pencilled in for Ffos Las tomorrow.

“He’s very sore. He’s not riding today, but he’s intending to ride tomorrow, I believe,” said McCoy’s PA Gee Bradburne.
