PSNI chief constable Hugh Orde has defended a meeting he held this morning with President Mary McAleese.

Mr Orde gave Mrs McAleese a full briefing on reform of policing in the North during the talks at PSNI headquarters in Belfast.

The Democratic Unionist Party had condemned the meeting, claiming policing in the North was none of the Irish President's business.

However, Mr Orde said today that he was "delighted" to meet with Mrs McAleese and praised her interest in security arrangements north of the border.
