Cork eye league title after victory

Cork City 1 Shelbourne 0

Cork stretched their lead at the top of the table to six points with this vital win at a packed Turner’s Cross tonight.

City took the game to Shels, whom they now lead by a staggering 17 points, and got their reward with the only goal on 23 minutes.

Neale Fenn got a ricochet off David Crawley to send man-of-the-match Joe Gamble to the end line and his pass back across the area was rifled home by right-back Neal Horgan.

Shels were disappointing throughout and their frustration got the better of them on 83 minutes when Richie Baker was sent off for a petulant kick at Liam Kearney, his second booking.
