Couple assaulted after being abducted from Mullingar home

A cross border investigation is underway following a punishment-style attack on a couple who were abducted from their home in Co Westmeath last night.

A cross border investigation is underway following a punishment-style attack on a couple who were abducted from their home in Co Westmeath last night.

The couple, aged 38 and 40, were kidnapped from their house in the Clonmore area of Mullingar just after 8pm.

They were taken to Derry, where both were assaulted and the man was shot in both ankles.

The two victims are recovering in hospital today.

Their home has been sealed off pending technical examination later today.
